WHOIS Accuracy Program – Why Am I Receiving Domain Suspension or Contact Verification Emails?
What is the WHOIS Accuracy Program?
The WHOIS Accuracy Program is a requirement of ICANN's 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement that became mandatory for all registrars on January 1, 2014.
This program ensures that registrars validate and verify registrant and account holder information. Under these rules, domain registrations must be suspended or deleted if
- False or unreliable information is intentionally provided.
- Contact information changes are not updated within 7 days.
- The registrant fails to respond to a registrar's request for data accuracy within 15 days.
- For full details, please see the WHOIS Accuracy Program in detail .
Who does this apply to?
The policy applies to all domain registrations under ICANN-administered generic top-level domains (gTLDs), such as .com, .net, .info, .biz, and .org. A complete list of ICANN-regulated gTLDs, excluding country code domains (ccTLDs), is available at iana.org .
This verification process applies to
- New domain registrations with newly created contact information.
- Updates to existing contact information associated with a previously registered domain.
- However, if a contact remains unchanged, it does not require verification.
How is the WHOIS Accuracy Program enforced?
When you create or modify a contact, a verification email is sent to the associated email address with a confirmation link. To complete the verification process, simply click on the link.
The process follows these steps:
Day 1 - A verification email is sent after a new contact is added or updated.
Day 7 - If not verified, a reminder email is sent.
Day 15 - If still unverified, any domain using that contact will be suspended per ICANN policy. A suspension notification email will be sent.
Why am I receiving a domain suspension warning?
If you receive a possible domain suspension alert, it means that an unverified contact is associated with your domain.
To resolve this:
- Log in to your Trustname account and go to the Domain Manager.
- Look for a warning message indicating that action is required.
- Click on the appropriate sections to verify or update the email address.
- If you update the email, a new verification email will be sent.
If you do not receive the verification email, contact [email protected] from the associated email with the subject line "Contact Verification" and include your domain name. Our team will manually verify the contact for you.
